Kerri Ainsworth- Style – Art Travel Adventures

Kerri Ainsworth profile and style, Bronte, June, 2018

I Introduced you to Kerri Ainsworth last week when I talked to her about her wonderful new venture Art Travel Adventures. Here we discover what the travelling entrepreneur wears, thinks about fashion, ageing and life.

1. WHO ARE THE DESIGNERS YOU LIKE?
Desigual, Lisa Stack (Helix), Allanah Hill, Amah Stretton, Saba, Jigsaw, French Connection

2. WHAT SORT OF CLOTHES APPEAL TO YOU?
Quirky and arty, as well as outdoor and elegant. Depending on my mood and situation. When I’m travelling I prefer a mix of outdoor and elegant, at home it’s more quirky and arty.

3. DO YOU HAVE ANY STYLE ICONS?
Not really. I’m a bit mercurial, as it’s based on my self-image at the time. Recently, I was inspired by the hair styling of the gorgeous Joanna Lumley, on the documentary TV series she narrated on India, to copy her hair cut and wear knotted scarves as headgear. Also that famous fashion icon Diane Keaton, appeared in a recent film “Hampstead Heath” wearing a jacket, crossed over her chest and nipped in at the waist with a wide black belt. Suddenly I found myself resurrecting an expensive Trent Nathan jacket I’d bought in the 80s and only worn twice. Now it has a new lease of life!

4. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT GETTING OLDER
I’m quite secretive about my age. I hate to be stereotyped in any way and people generalise about people of certain ages. I believe I’m atypical of my age group and most people are surprised when they learn that I’m older than mid 50s.

Quite frankly, I’d like to live forever! Like everyone, I’d like to look fabulous and 35, but have the wisdom that only a mature life’s experience brings. I’ve got so many things I want to do, and time seems to be running out. The age thing for me is not just about looking older, I want to remain fit and healthy. I see so many people my age getting ill and slowing down. It’s scary quite frankly. So live life to the fullest while you can, would have to be my credo.

5. DO MAGAZINES OR AD CAMPAIGNS TALK TO YOUR GENERATION?
I’m not a magazine reader and wherever possible avoid advertising. I do hate how woman are portrayed in magazines and believe that the photoshopped distortion of the human image goes a long way to encouraging dysmorphia particularly in the more vulnerable young.

6. HOW DO YOU APPROACH FASHION COMPARED TO YOUR MOTHERS GENERATION?
I’m far more daring than my mother’s generation. My mother once asked me when I’d stop wearing short skirts and my response was to say, when I no longer had attractive legs! I still wear short skirts.

7. WHERE ARE THE CLOTHES IN THE SHOTS FROM?
I travel a lot, so they are from all over. On one day I can be wearing pants from Uniclo in New York, a belt from Tokyo, a top from a quirky little boutique in Mexico, and shoes from Italy.

8. WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT ARE MOST IMPORTANT IN YOUR LIFE AS YOU GET OLDER?
Friends, deep connections with people, developing a community of like-minded people through my work, my health, travel, opening myself up to new experiences, self expression.
