The Baltra Bar in Condesa became our local during our stay in Mexico City. When in Mexico one must throw back a few shots of Mezcal and Tequila. At the Baltra the Mezcal comes with a slice of orange and a chilli salt to lick before the hit of liquid fire.
This mixology-serious cocktail bar is one of the best in the city for both classic and unique drinks served in special glassware with thoughtful garnishes.

First impression?
You have to buzz to get into this minuscule but adorable lounge with cozy, low lighting, circular end tables, and squat sofas.
Cool. So who’s there?
Condesa fashionistas, hipsters, bartenders from other bars. In short, people who like fancy cocktails.
How are the drinks?
This mixology-serious cocktail bar is one of the best in the city for both classic and unique drinks served in special glassware with thoughtful garnishes. Consider the four o'clock punch made with black tea or a hot toddy with chivas regal.
Worth ordering something to eat, too?
There are a few salty snacks to go with the drinks.
Did the staff do you right?
Knowledgable bartenders that take pride in their work. Wrap it up: what are we coming here for? A nice, well-mixed cocktail after you've had a number of sub-par ones throughout town. An intimate date spot.

See you there…while you’re waiting try the Fur Seal!
Its a date! The Fur Seal sounds wicked-will try!
Oh the wonderful memories of this tiny atmospheric and intimate bar. First stop 1st evening on a return to Mexico City.
This was another Gem in Condesa ….. a tiny, intimate little cocktail bar with superb atmosphere, service, and great cocktails …..
Here is the recipe for one of their ‘special’ cocktails called “FUR SEAL” that I had, and they kindly sent to me so it could be served at a Mexican and Cuban themed drinks party …..
I love to read your email. Of course, recipe is this:
Gin Beefeater ml 45
Martini Dry Vermouth ml 25
Amareto (Disaronno) ml 10
Scrappy Orange Bitter ml 3
Put all the ingredients in a mixing glass, stir, and serve in a chill coupe glass. Use a lemon twist as a garnish,
Let me know how was your party.
Wheel, the party was GREAT, partly to do with FUR SEAL and Bar Baltra.
