I’m trying a recipe from Ottolenghi Simple that requires some Mexican ingredients- hopefully you’ll see it on the blog tomorrow – I could have headed to Essential Ingredient in Rozelle, BUT, decided to head west instead. I read about about Tamaleria and Mexican Deli in Dulwich Hill in the Sun Herald, I think, in the end, it was closer.
The setting is humble, but there’s a low – key simplicity to the experience that’s like hanging out at a friends house. I tried the hot empanadas, available in flavours such as spinach and cheese and chorizo and potato, but was there to pick up some handmade corn tortillas. Check out the shelves while you wait, there is Oaxaca cheese and cans of cuitlacoche ( much-coveted “corn truffle”) If you can’t make it to Dulwich Hill, Rosa Cienfuegos ( the owner) runs a stall at Marrickville markets of Sunday where you can try her food.
