When Tina Brand introduced me to her friend the artist Susan Hipgrave ... well ... a style shoot was a must. Susan's style and wardrobe are as meticulous and considered as her beautiful, finely painted porcelain plates. Then I noticed one of her favourite designers was Jill Sander...... hello!
Thank you for the introduction and assistance Tina Brand x
WHO ARE THE DESIGNERS YOU LIKE?
Jil Sander, Celine, Yohji Yamamoto, Y3, Comme des Garcons, Dries Van Noten, COS on the odd occasion, and Uniqlo for basics.
WHAT SORT OF CLOTHES APPEAL TO YOU?
I love a relaxed fit, and a good colour palette in fabrics woven from silk, cotton or pure wool often given an edge with an interesting pair of trainers. I don't like feeling constrained by clothing, especially in Summer
DO YOU HAVE ANY STYLE ICONS?
I recently watched a documentary on Dries Van Noten. I love his approach to fashion. It's all about the fabric. The combination of textures. The utmost quality. Timeless fashion with a classic twist.
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT GETTING OLDER
Health and fitness have never been so important.
I think having a daughter later in life keeps me young, open and curious
HOW DO YOU APPROACH FASHION COMPARED TO YOUR MOTHERS GENERATION?
My mother was a petite woman, and wore her favourite brand Jaegar with grace and elegance. She was a discerning shopper of quality and she loved a sale. Mum knew her colour too, and would never mix brands - because the navy, bottle greens and camels were all different. When I inherited some of her skirts the receipt and date of purchase were still there, tucked in the pocket! I've learnt to window shop and look for "quality" at the right price from Mum. I think I've instilled that into my daughter.
WHERE ARE THE CLOTHES IN THE SHOTS FROM?
The jeans are Edwin, the jacket Reats Tailor Zazous and shoes are men's Gucci. The overshirt is Neighborhood. The black capri pants and herringbone loose fit pants are Rag & Bone at Incu, and the trainers are a splurge on Y3's at Poepke. Black wool knit jumper is COS.
WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT ARE MOST IMPORTANT IN YOUR LIFE AS YOU GET OLDER?
Family. New friends. Health. Fitness. Art. And my obsession with perfecting a good loaf of sourdough!
