Someone to listen to – Aldous Harding

Aldous Harding the New Zealand singer is someone my friend Julie Piece recommended I check out…. I liked her latest album ” Party ” very much, check out the video below and an article from the New York Times here ….

Aldous Harding shies away from explaining the quiet, cryptic, utterly arresting songs on “Party,” her second album and first American release, due on Friday. Conversing in a stark basement conference room at the New York City office of her American label, 4AD, Ms. Harding said, “I don’t really like to talk about what my songs are about.” It’s not a matter of coyness or defensiveness, though she does prefer that listeners find their own meaningSometimes it’s just uncertainty. “There are some that I listen to, and I think, where did that come from?” she said.

Ms. Harding, who is from New Zealand, was in New York at the end of an American showcase tour. Her sets often started with curious audiences and ended with rapt ones. “Party” was produced by John Parish, who has been a catalyst for intense songwriters like Polly Jean Harvey, Perfume Genius (who makes a guest appearance on the album) and Laura Jean, an Australian songwriter who pointed Mr. Parish toward Ms. Harding. Advance singles have already drawn praise from musicians like Lorde, who tweeted to 4.8 million followers that Ms. Harding’s “Imagining My Man” is a “soft flurry of gut punches. I think aldous is the most interesting musician around.”
