I have been trying to meet Lynn Clay who owns and runs the beautiful store called Scarlett Jones in Melbourne for years now... we even passed each other on the Hume Highway heading in opposite directions... of course ... last year! So when my dear friend Cath Derksema ( you will know Cath on Instagram as The Happenstore) mentioned that Lynn was in Paris and did I want to meet up? Hell Yeah thanks Cath.
Lynn suggested I join her on a flea market trawl, I can not imagine a better person to meet at 7am and head off into the suburbs of Paris to hunt for bargains and take in the wonderful faces of the Flea market scene.
This is about the first market we went to we then headed to Vernaison, a a flea market in Saint-Ouen-sue Seine and then had lunch in an Algerian restaurant...The best day!
Every weekend, rain or shine, just a few hundred metres from the Parc Montsouris on avenues Marc Sangnier and Georges Lafenestre, 400 second-hand traders come to sell their wares. To get the best deals, you have to get up early. After a quick cup of coffee, aim to get to the Vanves flea market by 7am. Unlike the famous Saint-Ouen Flea market, stalls are open air. There’s no pretention here, but it is precisely this sense of outmoded authenticity that attracts so many bargain hunters.
