
The thing you have to love about the French is that having been told not to do something they do it just the same.
The crowd at Place de la Republique ebbs and flows all day. Quiet respectful vigils for young lives lost too early, personal messages left in chalk. Stoic tolerance of the International media circus that encircles them. The national anthem – springs up in small corners and the whole join in.
It is beyond moving.
