First Original Finish Post – Warehouse Sale

This is the very first post I did about Original Finish. A business and people I love … they are recalibrating their business and selling the warehouse. A space like this in Newtown is a very rare find. It will be open for inspection on Thursday times and address below.

I had often walked past Original Finish, pressed my nose to the window to see the latest display of gorgeous tables and chairs. When we decided to put in a new floor and everything on the new boards looked tired and

Inappropriate, I decided to visit Alison and Stephen Gibson at Original Finish. The sad old sofa, that for very odd sentimental reasons I couldn’t get rid of, was restored and got a new life with linen loose covers as did two lovely wingback chairs.

Next we had found a beautiful old “drapers” table at another favourite shop Quintessential DuckeggBLUE but the size didn’t work, so we asked Stephen if he could make us one. This is his specialty, building furniture with richly patinated antique timber sourced locally and internationally. He individually made and hand finished our rather large drapers table from pieces of 100 year old kauri. During the process we became friends. Alison introduced me to the food of Yotam Ottolenghi at one their fabulous dinner parties.

The shop is a must visit, I dare you to go there and not feel compelled to run your hand over these beautiful tables.
