This lunch with Chris we were a plus one, Chris’s sister Isobel joined us. We headed to Kensington Street hoping to try the much lauded Mekong. No lunch on Friday kids. We settled on the Viet, downstairs from Mekong and sharing a kitchen and I’m guessing a wine list.
These two restaurants are at the entrance to Spice Alley and are in the same building upstairs for your more upmarket and then downstairs to The Viet for a more street food experience. We started with Pork and prawn dumplings with chilli soy and fresh young ginger. Delicious. Then ordered Hanoi Chicken with turmeric rice with mint and chilli – OK so I didn’t try this one, but the girls thought it a lovely little chook dish. My favourite was the Stir fried flat noodles with prawn, fishcake, chinese sausage, garlic, bean sprouts. Rounded out the meal with Stir fried lemongrass beef with Chinese broccoli, garlic and steamed rice.
The King girls picked the wine, I can’t remember what it was but it was white and very nice. They agreed the wine list was good.
This is not a fine dining experience but lovely fresh Vietnamese food responsibly priced.
