Lunch with Kerry, Frenchies Bistro & Brewery – Rosebery

I met up with Kerry (regular model and style story on this blog) for lunch at Frenchies Bistro & Brewery last week. The bistro makes up one of the interesting outlets under the banner name of The Cannery in Rosebery … more about The Cannery below …… My regular lunch buddy Chris is in Thailand overseeing/observing the cremation of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and will return to duties mid Nove.

The food at Frenchies is good bistro nosh. Kerry had the – deconstructed – bouillabaisse I had the giant grouper ( I didn’t realise we ate grouper) with romanesco and citrus sauce and we shared ….. I think the star of the meal …. baked cauliflower with pickled grapes and nuts.
The atmosphere was pretty pedestrian but this could be that the place needs more bodies and The Cannery has the feel of a place still finding its crowd. The other side of the building is more successful with Koskela homewares / Black star pastry and Three Blue Duck restaurant.

But the big turn off for me is the wasteland of apartments that is destroying any character this area had and …. that, try as they might …. the warehouse feel of The Cannery can’t quiet counter.
