Lunch at Cafe Paci for The Birthday Boy

Cafe Paci opened up on King Street Newtown just before the lockdown so, even tho, I had been lining up to buy their extraordinary bread ... potatoes and molasses this has been our first opportunity to try the food.

Anon - now Slim, on this blog - has been on a very disciplined track to loose some weight, on his birthday ( Saturday ) he has lost 20% of body weight. So Cafe Paci was a fabulous place to celebrate.

Chef Pasi Petänen can spin Pacojets with the best of them. But with his new, permanent home in Sydney's Inner West, the chef and serial pop-up artist shows he can still win at the basics.

We worked our way through the house potato and molasses bread ($4) and the liquorice cake with carrot sorbet and yoghurt mousse ($15). A few standouts include potato dumplings with trout XO sauce.  There’s also the “very Finnish” herring and potato dish, which is topped with sour-cream dressing and raw onion.

Petanen says he’s leaning towards a European bistro or bar style of dining, where people can pop in for a drink and a few oysters at the bar, or settle in for the long haul in the restaurant.

  3. Loved this restaurant. It’s atmosphere and food and warm friendly service were just perfect. And of course I totally love Lorrie the most perfect partner in life that any boy could even imagine.
