WHAT SORT OF CLOTHES APPEAL TO YOU?
I’m a person of extremes when it comes to clothing, so I swing between the very glitzy to your overall’s look! I like anything with structure and flamboyancy. A Denim, anything, skirt, jumpsuit, shirt, jacket, jeans or even a hat is my favourite ‘down-the-shops-around-the-house’ look. I love a fusion of textures and looks in one clothing item, a silk corset denim pant jumpsuit for example! I always prefer to wear natural fabrics like silk, linen and cotton, but of course any stunning Vintage piece, usually made out of Polyester is always an exception to that rule.
DO YOU HAVE ANY STYLE ICONS ?
I loved Frida Kahlo, since I was very young, way before her face became a kitsch icon, appearing on every holiday home’s quilt set. I love how she stood against Western ideals of beauty and femininity and yet all she created was so stunning. I love Florence Broadhurst designs too. Religious icons, Italian cinema from Fellini, Passolini, Tim Burton are a few aesthetics that I can think of that influence my tastes.
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT GETTING OLDER
I love it because I do have greater knowledge in my industry and am endowered with respect from younger artists. Being a 50 year old does remind you of your mortality but you still have the health and strength to put some of your wisdom into practice.
DO MAGAZINES OR AD CAMPAIGNS TALK TO YOUR GENERATION?
I find there is a great range from being patronising and piteous, to sometimes being powerful and helpful.
HOW DO YOU APPROACH FASHION COMPARED TO YOUR MOTHERS GENERATION?
I don’t care what other people think of my fashion sense and I show a lot more of body regardless of my age.
WHERE ARE THE CLOTHES IN THE SHOTS FROM?
My denim overalls is a size 14 Girls Target number, the Red gown is a Vintage number I got in Paris, the Pink Fringe number is from Pretty In Pink and the Stripped Jumpsuit is from AKIRA
WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT ARE MOST IMPORTANT IN YOUR LIFE AS YOU GET OLDER?
My beautiful husband and sons, my commitment to be true to my dreams and do the best I can do in my art form which is live performance. Also to eat sumptuously and drink decadently and dance joyously till I die!
