Our home in Brooklyn, New York

Well our home for two weeks in December. The apartment belongs to Jacki Lyden a journalist on National Public Radio and a friend of Geraldine Brooks.

We loved staying here. Jacki set us very nicely with wine and snacks on arrival, a list of the best local haunts. The home reflects an incredibly interesting life and travels.

The apartment is in Prospect Park, and a five minute walk to Grand Army Plaza subway station.

It had been a photographic studio, hence the wonderful sloping window. Interestingly, Jacki’s husband is a Photo journalist for the Washington Post.

The lay-out is generous with an office, bedroom, well equipped kitchen and grand living area.

On the office wall is a review in the New York times of a book that Jacki wrote called the ” Daughter of the Queen of Shepba”.

” Writing in deft luminous prose” it said ” A book that belongs on the shelf of classic memoirs, alongside ‘The Liar’s Club’ by Mary Carr and ‘Angela’s Ashes’ by Frank McCourt.”

Ah the places one finds great books to read.

If you would like to rent the apartment you can contact Jacki C/- facebook or I’ll pass on your contacts.

  1. Dear Lorrie — thank you for loving the flat as much as I do, and for making it come to life in a new way. It’s been eighteen years, and for me, it only gets better as an experience. Even when the plaster falls off, or the floorboards warp: its got the vitality of all the souls who’ve loved it.

Thank you for coming and making it yours, and adding to it. — Jacki

  2. This was such a great apartment. Plenty of space …. unfortunately I had to do some work while there and the Office with desk and view out over the snow was fantastic …. and I loved the area. Short walk to the subway had us all around NY in 30 or 40 minutes, and I love the subway trips in themselves. Some great local cafes and Restaurants, a short walk to the huge and beautiful Prospect Park, and slightly longer to Cobble Hill and the wonderful Cinema, wine bars, restaurants ….. Really cannot recommend a stay in this ‘hood more highly.

  3. Beautiful we always stay with friends who have a place right on Riverside Park-they were the lucky ones who bought back in the 60s-gorgeous prewar building!
