Claude Monet and Joan Mitchell – The Show

I'm just going to state right up front that Joan and I would have been best friends...now the show, a wander through the first two galleries and and Monet had me ... by gallery 7 not only had Joan and Claude somehow merged/blend/influenced that Joan had won me over...

However ...

The exhibitions Monet–Mitchell and Joan Mitchell Retrospectivecreate a visual, artistic, sensorial, and poetic dialogue between the works of Claude Monet (1840-1926) and Joan Mitchell (1925-1992). Both artists left their mark not only on their epoch, but also on subsequent generations of painters.

Monet–Mitchell presents each artist’s unique response to a shared landscape in the French countryside northwest of Paris, which they interpret in a particularly immersive and sensual manner. The exhibition is complemented by a retrospective of Joan Mitchell’s work, which was co-organized by San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) and Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) and presented in Paris by the Fondation Louis Vuitton. The retrospective debuted at SFMOMA in September 2021, then moved to BMA in March 2022. The showing at Fondation Louis Vuitton, which is the final venue in the exhibition's tour, is the most significant Mitchell exhibition in Europe in almost 30 years, creating an opportunity for the public in France and Europe to be immersed in Mitchell's work.
