Brasilica of Our Lady in Trastevere, Rome

This is one of the oldest churches in Rome, perhaps the first one in which Mass was openly celebrated. Despite this the church is very much a working church and the hub for the local community of Trastevere. It is also a must see destination for visiting nuns.

The floor plan and wall structure of the church date back to 340’s and inside the church are a number of late 13th century mosaics. Best visited in the late morning when the sun hits the walls and the whole church glows.

The square in front of the Brasilica is also one of the centres of Trastevere’s night life
