It has been almost 4 years since I last stayed at the Ananda Cottages Annexe in Ubud, Bali. This is my 5th or 6th visit, so that confirms how much I love Ananda and the family owners.
Note : The is a repost from October 2014. It will be replaced with new posts in 2018.
On our most recent trip to Bali, with all good intentions and having booked particular room numbers, overlooking one of the pools, our favourite room had an unsightly building site next door. Our friend and neighbour was joining us at Ananda for a week’s break so we wanted rooms with an adjoining balcony.
The Annexe was suggested as an alternative. This is a small group of rooms, with pool that is a 500 metre walk from the main complex. It has its own pool and overlooks fertile and working rice paddies. Because we were visiting in February – the low season – we had the entire annexe to ourselves. Delightful.
The best room by far is Villa A; this is not a villa, but a large standard room with a generous balcony overlooking the rice paddies. It has an adjoining balcony with Villa B, also a standard room. We are not entirely sure if the Annexe is where you would want to be if it was fully occupied, as it could get a bit crowed and noisy around the pool, but would be ideal for a large group travelling together, in fact large yoga groups often take over the entire annexe. It is perfect if travelling in February however.

Love following your blog, your stories and pics.
. Curious to know your recommendation for room at Ananda . Want a quiet, light room for one, where I can work during the day and get a good sleep. I hear some of the rooms are not very soundproof . If you get the time to respond. thank you !

Hi Lee, So pleased you enjoy the blog. We always try to stay in Villa A in the Annex …. if you put Ananda Cottages – Annex … in search you will find a post. Villa A is a large room with wrap around veranda…not a Villa.
Depending on your time of visit the Annex can be a good option. There is also a wonderful spa pretty well next door. Put Ubud in search and all of the posts from our trip last year should pop up.
Hope you have a wonderful trip. Best Lorrie
The Ananda Cottages annexe is as wonderful in January 2018 as it was in 2014. Little has changed. Yes, there are some other guests, but it is all still very quiet in the annexe, and totally relaxing.
The 3 generations of the Ananda family are as gracious and generous as always, the young girls of 2014 are now young teenagers even more advanced with their Balinese dances ….. and now some modern dances as well.
