Casa Los Mangos, in is the only place to stay in Trinidad Cuba. I know this is a huge call, but from the moment you contact Fiona Wilson you will know what I mean.
Sadly we only managed one night … it is so popular …. but we spent a lot of time with Fiona and her husband Ossiel.
Two degrees of separation Fiona is an Australian who worked in publishing and in fact for Allen and Unwin a company, with whom, I have published two books. She is also a close friend of ( Amanda ) who owns Pentimento, a shop, in King Street Newtown ….. it was Amanda who suggested Casa Los Mangos.
You will meet and find out more about Fiona and how she ended up in as a Cuban resident and her charming and talented husband Ossiel next week.
Casa Los Mangos is located in the city of Trinidad, Cuba, a short walk away from the historical centre and shopping district. The house is set amongst a very large garden with an established grove of mango, banana and avocado trees and a wide variety of tropical plants. It catches the sea breezes from the Ancon Peninsula, with its superb snorkeling/diving sites and tranquil white sand beaches, nearby. GPS 21° 47’56.50 N 79° 59’33.20 W Elevation 51m.
There are three spacious rooms for rent, 2 twin rooms with two double beds and the other a double room with 1 double bed and optional single bed. All rooms include air conditioning, hot showers, fans, mosquito nets, minibar, en-suite, a private entrance, 240 v and 110v power points and access to a large verandah. The verandah overlooks the garden and has outdoor furniture and hammocks for guests to use. There is off street security parking, bicycles and snorkeling gear for hire and guests are welcome to stroll through the orchard and sample the fresh produce.
They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. All meals are served on the verandah or in the dining room and they cater for vegetarians and other dietary requirements. At Casa Los Mangos they also grow herbs, vegetables and other fruits. Picnic lunches are available upon request. Whilst they can prepare a wide variety of cocktails, fruit juices and smoothies, the house speciality is a mango daiquiri.
Your hosts are Fiona Wilson, an intrepid world traveller now resident in Cuba and her husband Ossiel Ramirez Perez, a local Cuban musician and artisan.
