Her name is Asma Khan, she is a Rohinga refugee from Burma. Each Saturday morning you will find her at Parliament Cafe 632 King Street Newtown where she is doing work experience.
Ravi the owner of the cafe helps refugees learn some basic hospitality skills, make coffee, serve breakfast. In return the refugees introduce their food – a traditional noodle breakfast -and culture to the locals who frequent the cafe. Asthma, who is married with a 7 year old daughter, has been at the cafe for a few months, Ravi will write her a reference telling of her experience that will help find her some work.
